For Cameron Wong, the investment of his wife’s time and support was the stimulus that saw him persevere during his tertiary education.

Mr Wong graduated yesterday with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Human Resource Management and Public Administration.

This was during the Laucala Campus graduation ceremony held at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.

“It is an achievement for me and seeing my wife here makes me feel happy,” he said.

Mr Wong, 33, is from Western Province in the Solomon Islands. He works in the retail section of BRED Bank.

“While pursung my undergraduate degree, my wife was always there with me to help me cope with my studies,” he said.

“She is a big support for me and provided that much needed motivation.

“We stayed off-campus and our major concern centred around finance.”

Mr Wong said they were Solomon Islands Government-sponsored students therefore they had to wait for their allowance, which sometimes did not arrive at the right time.

“Living in a foreign country, we used to have travelling expenses as well,” he said.

However, as a couple they tackled all of their obstacles together.

“We were in a relationship for seven years and after one year of studying at USP, we got married,” Mr Wong said.

He is the first graduate in his family.

His word of encouragement is: “I want to encourage more students to come and study in USP, and never give up.”

His wife, Elizabeth Wong, said she was really proud of her husband’s achievement.

The final year B.Com student said she thanked God for bringing Mr Wong into her life and for the blessings, which guided him in his studies to successfully graduate.
