VILLAGERS PRAISE GOVT FOR WATER SUPPLY

The Mata Ni Tikina (district representative) of Yasawa, Sione Ratulevu has thanked the Government for putting people first.

He made the comment as Government officials arrived at Tamusua Village, Yasawa, on Thursday to hand over water supply in light of the dry spell experienced in parts of the country.

“Government has helped us when we were in a real need,” said Mr Ratulevu.

“I thank the Government for this.”

Mr Ratulevu said the dry spell left the entire community without water and prompt action by the Government was needed for everyone in the maritime regions.

“We were running out of drinking water and it was worrying me each day,” he said.

Mr Ratulevu said many water sources had started drying up as well.

“As the head of the community, it worried me,” he said.

“But everyone was happy when we were provided with water.”

Government officials also supplied water for Ratu Namasi Primary School at Tamasua Village.

“Students were just filled with joy when the school received the water,” Mr Ratulevu said.

He said tanks were being provided by the Government in the various villages around the island.

“This will allow us to store water during major crises,” he said.

Mr Ratulevu said there were still areas left to be supplied with water tanks and this was expected to be done soon by Government officials.

“The Government has placed emphasis on schools and hospitals,” he said.
