The Vodafone Vanua XVs tour to New Zealand in November is the way to go.

This is an opportunity for our Vodafone Vanua (formerly known as Fiji B-Division) players to compete against the Kiwis- who are the world’s best in the rugby business.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said the tour is a part of the outcome of discussions between the New Zealand Rugby Union and FRU as they look to strengthen their collaboration with the NZRU in rugby terms.

The move has helped FRU’s commitment in creating pathways for all our players. This is an opportunity for them to play in the FRU Vodafone Vanua Championship to compete for places in the Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors, Fiji Airways Drua, the Fiji Airways men’s sevens teams and ultimately the Flying Fijians.

According to Mr O’Connor there is more to come from their discussions with NZRU as they hope for their representative Mitre 10 or Heartland teams to tour Fiji and play the Vodafone Vanua team every alternative year while our team tours NZ the year after.

The move is surely going to lift the standard of play in next year’s Vodafone Vanua Championship with the emergence of talented players.

This is a proven fact because over the years under the Fijian B-Division, it has produced players who went on to represent the national rugby teams.

These players include Kaiava Salusalu, Emosi Tatawaqa, Isikeli Cagilaba, Josefa Naikidi, Pio Tubui, Isimeli Cerelala and the list goes on.
