Many Hindu devotees yesterday marked the end of the Ganesh Utsav, the birth of Lord Ganesha.

The Hindu festival, that is celebrated in honour of Lord Ganesha, will last for 10 days.

The celebration involves installing clay images of Lord Ganesha in public pandals (temporary shrines) and devotees worshipping together.

On the 11th day, the idols are immersed in a body of water such as a lake, pond, river or sea. Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha Fiji national president Sarju Prasad said everyone should learn the teachings of Lord Ganesha.

Mr Prasad said Lord Ganesha teaches devotees to be kind and forgive easily, respect your parents, respect everyone and be humble to others among many other teachings.

“We have to learn and walk on the path of Lord Ganesha, who has taught us many great things through our holy scriptures.

“One of his teachings is to respect your parents as they are your world because for Lord Ganesha, his parents Lord Shiva and Parvati were his world as he circled around them during a task given by his parents instead of going around the world.

“Lord Ganesha teaches us to be humble and kind to everyone,” Mr Prasad said.

He said the birth of Lord Ganesha provided with an opportunity to know and learn his teachings to make our lives easier and prosper in the future.
