101 Officer Cadets Undergo Intensive Training Over The Next 11 Months

One-hundred and one of­ficer cadets will undergo 11 months training as part of the 1/18 Officer Cadet Course.

Chief Instructor Major Manono Tove said the aim of the officer cadet course is to train future lead­ers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

“The cadets will be going through an 11 months cadet training pro­gramme where they’ll be exposed to various types of training which involves leadership training, com­mand training, management train­ing, mentoring and likewise the use of RFMF equipment and weap­ons.”

Major Tove added that the chal­lenges the officer cadets will be fac­ing are physical training, the en­vironment and the weather which tests their courage.

They will also be facing challeng­es of living in sub-standard envi­ronments like tents and undergo field exercises where they’ll be de­prived of food and sleep.

The sliding ceremony which was held on Monday was officiated by the Commander RFMF Rear Admi­ral Viliame Naupoto.

He was assisted by the Com­mander Land Force (CLF) Colonel Manoa Gadai and Chief of Staff (COS) Brigadier-General Ro Jone Logavatu Kalouniwai.

Senior Staff Officers, men and women of the RFMF, families and friends attended in large numbers to witness the formal presentation of Officer Cadet Slides to the one hundred and one (101) Cadet Offic­ers.

To be part of the Officer Cadet Course, applicants undergo a se­lection process called the ROSB (Required Officer Selection Board).

After the ROSB, they undergo the basic recruitment training before they are selected for the officer ca­det programme.

There are 77 male and 24 female officer cadets.
