Fiji has expanded its international Police co-operation capabilities thanks to a memorandum of agreement signed yesterday.

Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia and the Minister for National Security and Defence Ratu Inoke Kubuabola signed the documents in Georgia.

Ratu Inoke is there for a ministerial bilateral visit to strengthen Police Co-operation between the two countries.

Ratu Inoke highlighted that Georgia in terms of the integrity of its national security system is ranked number five in the world behind Japan, Singapore, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

“Georgia has a population of 3.4 million and in 2018 their estimated tourist arrival is 7.6 million and it is increasing every year,” he said.

“They must be doing something right in terms of national security.”

The MOU signifies the intention between the two countries to enhance co-operation in sharing experience as well as best practice in crime prevention and combating crime, education and training and in administrative capacity building as well.

Road safety, criminal intelligence, crowd management, security during sportive events and mass concentration and new police technologies and tools are additional areas of mutual interest that the two countries have agreed to work on.
