Man Jailed 5 Years Five Months For Aggravated Robbery

An 18-year-old man of Nasinu was sentenced to four years and five months imprisonment with a non-parole period of one year and nine months.
Tevita Seniceva appeared before Suva High Court judge Justice Vinsent Perera on Tuesday for his sentencing.
Seniceva was convicted and sentenced for one count of aggravated robbery.
On June 6, 2018 at Princess Road, Suva, at about 7.45pm, in the company of another, Seniceva robbed the complainant 46-year-old Sharmila Kumar.
Items include one handbag valued at $70, one wallet valued at $35, one gold chain valued at $500, one gold ring valued at $250, a pair of gold earrings valued at $120, one eye glass valued at $300, one Samsung J2 mobile phone valued at $349, assorted cards and a bunch of keys, all to the total of $1624.
Justice Perera noted that none of the items were recovered by the Police.
He said: “The sentences are to punish offenders to an extent and in a manner which is just in all the circumstances.
“To protect the community from offenders and to deter offenders or other persons from committing offences of the same or similar nature.
“The sentence is to signify that the court and the community denounce such offences,” Justice Perera said.
Seniceva was given 30 days to appeal against his sentence to the Court of Appeal.
