Remand For Truck Driver Charged With Wife’s Murder

A 29-year-old man of Malamala outside Nadi appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday charged with murder.
Moneel Yogesh Narayan, a truck driver and father-of-two, appeared before Magistrate Siromi Turaga.
The court heard that on September 11, the accused allegedly caused the death of his wife, Sonika Singh.
Divisional Prosecution Officer West ASP Anil Prasad objected to bail, saying there was tension in the community.
He said there was a need to protect Narayan and if released on bail then he was likely to interfere with witnesses who are residents in the area.
Magistrate Turaga said the matter was an indictable offence and any bail application would have to be made in the High Court.
The accused has been remanded until October 17 when the case will be called in the High Court in Lautoka. Edited by Epineri Vula
