FICAC Conducts Search At University Of Fiji Office

Officers of the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) raided the University of Fiji Saweni Campus, Lautoka yesterday.
It was around 9.30am when three FICAC officers went in to meet the Assistant Registrar Sanjay Singh.
The officers then entered the office of the Executive Director of Finance, Ravneet Sami and presented the search warrant.
According to Mr Sami, the FICAC officers said they had “come to investigate on the alleged abuse of office” matter.
Mr Sami co-operated with the various requests of the officers and the raid lasted three hours.
This raid comes after the abuse of office claim at University of Fiji had been lodged with FICAC earlier this month.
It is understood that the case has been linked to recent controversial administrative decision at the university.
This relates to the clock in and clock out policy that was extended to the university staff, acting allowance, student fee arrears and other audit issues.
The chair of the University Council, Pro-Chancellor Anil Tikaram refused to comment about the raid.
“I cannot comment on this and the best person would be the Acting Vice Chancellor,” he said.
Multiple attempts to contact Acting Vice Chancellor Narendra Reddy failed.
