Housing Authority of Fiji is hopeful that it will acquire land at Naqeledamu in Tailevu for development.

Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Housing and Environment Joshua Wycliffe said housing authority was still in discussions and liaison with the mataqali.

“They hope to have the liaison completed in the next four to five weeks,” he said.

“The confirmation of acquisition is still not ready so they have not acquired it in full, but they hope that the talks will be fruitful in the next four to five weeks.”

Mr Wycliffe said housing authority hoped to start selling strata type properties soon once it was able to strike an affordable price.

“Housing authority is working on the best possible prices at the moment,” he said.

“For the people that we would like to support and assist with this product we would like to make it as affordable as possible because the intention with strata housing is to bring in more people, to assist more people improve within an available amount of land.

“What we want to do is bring maximum justice with the best possible available land that is based on location.

“What we are doing is we are being very careful in working on bringing the prices down and make it affordable as possible.

“We have not started selling strata type properties yet, but we hope to do that very soon once we are able to strike a price.”

Mr Wycliffe said a factor they needed to consider was the cost of construction.

“They are looking at how we can minimise, reduce the cost of construction and be able to provide details of how we can come up with reduced construction cost, reduced labour cost and then we can have the most affordable price,” he said.
