The People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo, hopes the Library Services of Fiji will make use of books donated by the Zhengzhou Library of Henan Province on Friday.

A China Reading Corner is now located at the Library Services of Fiji building at Vuya Road, Suva.

Mr Qian said the donation came at the right time as Fiji was preparing to establish the Fiji National Library.

“The China Reading Corner consists of more than 6000 books and other hardware such as computers, reading desks, chairs and book shelves donated by Zhengzhou Library,” he said.

Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts, Library Services & National Archives of Fiji Alison Burchell said they were grateful for the donations from Zhengzhou Library.

“Libraries are very important, but always underutilised. Using the library can improve literacy level and students should use the library when doing research for their projects,” Ms Burchell said.
