Man involved In Accident: I Woke Up In Hospital

Shelvin Kunal Chand, 19, only remembers waking up in hospital.
He does not remember the road accident last Thursday that landed him there, but he considers himself lucky to survive.
Every Thursday he trains with the company soccer team he plays for.
“I dropped my friend at Qauia and was on my way home. The next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital,” Shelvin said.
“I don’t remember what happened. I have undergone two surgeries to clean my wounds. I am lucky that I am still alive.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old from Nadi, while heading towards Suva, collided with the vehicle driven by Mr Chand causing it to veer off the road.
The 23-year-old driver is yet to be questioned.
Shelvin’s father, Kamal Chand, thanked God that his son was alive.

“I found out about the accident through my boss. He was passing by when he saw the accident,” he said.
“He came home and asked if my son had a sticker on the car he drives.
“I said yes, and he told me to go where the accident was because my son was involved in the accident.
“I rushed to where the accident was and was told that my son was taken to the hospital.
“I thank God that my son is alive. Despite the injuries I am thankful that nothing happened to him.
“I was scared and terrified when I heard that my son was involved in an accident.
The other driver wasn’t injured, but my son was. I was just crying when I saw my son. I was frightened.
“I hope it is a lesson for the driver.”
