New Date Set For Ucunipotu 7s Tournament

Expect some of the former Fijian national 7s players to play in the Ucunipotu 7s tournament on November 23-24, says official Nabiri Waqanivalu.
He confirmed that 24 teams have shown interest to participate in the two-day tournament at Subrail Park in Labasa.
“Former Fiji sevens captain Emosi Vucago and William Ryder’s teams are playing in the tournament which make this year’s competition tough,” he said.
“We’ve also sent out an invitation to Gareth Baber’s national sevens team to be part of the tournament. We are hoping that they will come and play.
“The tournament was to be held on October 11-12 but we have moved the date to November 23-24 as the ground will be used for Fiji Day celebrations and it is a Government event.”
Waqanivalu said the tournament provides a platform for the youths in Vanua Levu to showcase their rugby talents.
“This is where these local youths can play their hearts out if they want to be recruited in renowned rugby clubs, a stepping stone for them in their mission to wear the national jersey,” he said.
“We’re expecting a lot of spectators to cheer their lungs out for their favourite teams during the tournament.”
