The 43rd Vodafone Primary Schools Inter-District Championship got a major boost yesterday when sponsors Vodafone Fiji handed over $25,000 during the official pool draws ceremony in Tamavua, Suva.

The three-day tournament, which is from October 17-19 will see over 28 schools participating in the Under-12 and U14 grades.

Fiji Primary Schools Football Association president Dina Mani said what began as a small tournament has grown and they are grateful to Vodafone for their continuous support.

“The tournament is heading in the right direction, we started off with $5000 and today it has increased to $25, 000,” Mani said.

“The money is used to pay for the medics, hiring of new grounds and other logistics are also taken care off which includes travelling expenses.

“With over 25 schools attending the tournament we can expect a tough competition.”

Mani added that Taveuni are the newcomers to this year’s IDC.

“Taveuni will bring a lot of competition and it is good to see grassroot players be able to display their skills.

“I hope that this partnership continues in the years to come as the game progresses.”

Vodafone Fiji head of recharge and distribution Nilesh Singh said the sponsorship would further strengthen their partnership with the association, which trickles down to the grassroot level.

“Games such as the primary school IDC acts as a great pathway to mould future Fijian football stars. Vodafone seeks continuously support the football body to grow the game further,” he added.
