Discipline is an issue Tavua football coach Nazeel Ali is working hard on before the 2018 Courts Inter-District Championship kicks-off at the ANZ Stadium, Suva on Friday.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Ali said this is an important element as they are in a tough pool where they face Nadi along with Southern giants Suva and Rewa.

“We have our objectives but once we work on our discipline then we can expect improvement in our game,” he said.

“Our target for this year’s IDC is to reach the semifinals. This will need a lot of patience and sacrifice from the players. We will not rush things but rather we will take each game at a time and see how far we will go.”

Ali said they are in a pool of death and it would be a tough task for them to reach the semi-final but however, nothing is impossible.

“We are preparing a team that will be able to compete against the best as we will be the underdogs in our group.

“We have a very young side but we have been training on a hard pitch and since the weather is wet in Suva our players will try and adapt to the wet ground conditions during the tournament.”

The no-nonsense coach also highlighted that they have lost star striker Vilitati Kautoga who has joined Labasa.

“At the moment we are looking for a key player that will be able to replace him. The players know the task ahead and hopefully they will be able to deliver especially in the goal scoring area.”

Ali said he has been urging his young players to lift their game.

“As our first match is against Rewa, we respect the side but we will go and play for a win. We will need to have good start than focus later on our next match.”

Ali has called on their fans to be at the ANZ Stadium in Suva Friday to cheer them on against Rewa in their pool opener.

The Tavua Football Association was founded in 1942.  The last time Tavua won the IDC was in 1995 where they beat Nadi 2-0 in the final at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
