There were 15 people charged with a total of 35 counts of separate serious sexual offence incidents in the month of September. The offences were rape (29), indecent assault (1) and sexual assault (5).

This data relates to the number of formal indictments (Information) filed in the High Courts of Fiji by the Director of Public Prosecutions throughout the month.

This data is confined to incidents of serious sexual offences only.

There were 15 victims of the 35 counts of separate incidents of whom 12 victims were under the age of 18 years.

Of the 15 people charged, one was a 15-year-old boy who was charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl.

There were eight incidents where the victims and the accused persons were related to one another.

A 61-year-old grandfather was charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault of his granddaughters.

He is alleged to have raped and sexually assaulted his 8-year-old, 10-year-old and two 11-year-old granddaughters.

In another incident, a 42-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

There was one incident where a 32-year-old man was charged with the rape and assault of his 37-year-old de facto partner. (NB: The offence of assault is recorded separately).

A 42-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 16-year-old niece while a 20-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 16-year-old cousin.

There was one incident where a 26-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 15-year-old girlfriend.

In a separate incident, a 53-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 15-year-old male employee.

There was one incident where a 55-year-old man was charged with the rape, indecent assault, assault and criminal intimidation of a 20-year-old woman. (NB: The offences of assault and criminal intimidation are recorded separately).

One matter was withdrawn after a discontinuance (Nolle Prosequi) was filed due to false complaints from witnesses.
