Adi Cakobau School 80’s alumna Laniana Busa owes her success to the all-girls Sawani school.

Now the Vice     Principal of ACS, Mrs Busa says she can vividly remember the tiny girl that she was when joining the school in 1982 as a form one student.

“I learnt leadership skills here in ACS,” Mrs Busa said.

“I was not really a vocal person but I worked hard and when I went to the University of the South Pacific (USP) they recognised the leadership skills that I had.”

“It came naturally, to be meticulous, and that helped me to move up the ladder.”

She said one thing that sets ACS apart from other secondary schools was the sisterhood bond that is forged between students and the school’s holistic approach to education.

“I am very blessed, thankful and grateful that I am able to give back to ACS what ACS instilled in me during the six years I was a student,” she said.

“The school moulded me to be the person that I am now. To be strong and to be happy with the little that I have and to work hard to achieve what I want.

“From looking after my hair, down to my skirt and ensuring that the hem of my skirt is not falling off.”

Major change

She said a major change she had observed was the increase in day scholars.

“At that time the school roll was made up of mostly boarders and the only day scholars were children of teachers. Now half our school roll are day scholars.

“I am not reluctant to say that discipline has changed because of the changing times that we are in.

“Discipline issues, social problems are coming up so we cannot say that ACS is free from those problems.

“Parents and teachers are doing their best to foster, to forge good discipline and to uphold the motto and vision and mission of the school.”
