The Board and Management of Fiji Ports Corporation Limited have congratulated Senior Port Pilot Captain Mosese Cirikisuva for winning the Pilot of the Year award at the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji Awards night last week.

Captain Cirikisuva was among the eight winners from various categories announced last Thursday at the Awards Night held at the Fiji Maritime Academy to coincide with the World Maritime Day celebrations.

“We are proud of Captain Mosese’s achievement which speaks volume of his hard work and dedication over the years,” Acting Chief Operating Officer Captain Laisiasa Gonewai said on behalf of the management.

Captain Gonewai, who is also the Suva Harbour Master, has also thanked MSAF for such initiative putting into place such initiative to reward and recognise our local seafarers especially our Port Pilots who risk their lives on a daily basis for the safe bringing of foreign vessels to our shore.

Captain Cirikisuva holds a Class 1 Pilot license and Class 1 Master Foreign Going Certificate of Competency.

He is based at the Port of Lautoka.

His role includes setting out at sea before sunrise to guide vessels into the harbour.

As a Class 1 licence holder, he is responsible for bringing n larger vessels.

Pilots are experts ship handlers who possess detailed knowledge of our local entrance and usually board the vessels in the open seas.
