Sugar cane ready for crushing at Rarawai Mill.

The Fiji Sugar Corporation will compensate growers who were affected by the breakdown at the Rarawai Mill in Ba last week.

This was confirmed yesterday by FSC.

FSC said they were working on calculating the breakdown compensation.

The breakdown at Rarawai Mill saw repairs being made to the juice pump and boiler grate.

While repairs were being carried out, cane lorries at the mill were diverted to Lautoka which eased mill queues.

Lorry drivers who were delayed were also provided meals and transport as necessary.

FSC said the Rarawai Mill crush rate will pick up as soon as poor quality juice left from the stoppage is processed.

This should have normalised last night.

Meanwhile a cable fault early yesterday morning at the Lautoka Mill resulted in loss of an electrical resistor on its A side carrier.

Cables and the resistors have since been replaced and this line re-started around 1pm yesterday.

The breakdown on the A side saw the mill run only its B side while repairs were being done.

The Lautoka Mill was expected to start normal crushing by yesterday afternoon.
