MGM Marks Gandhi Day

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Bharti Singh, the Principal of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School was quoting Mahatma Gandhi as she opened the school’s celebrations in honour of Mahatma Gandhi.
Yesterday marked the 150th birthday of the great saint and celebrations were hosted by MGM High School at the Kshatriya Hall in Suva.
The theme for this year’s Gandhi Day celebrations, is “Service is putting others before yourself” exemplified by the journey of Mahatma Gandhi whose entire life was of sacrifice and service to his nation.
“Mahatma Gandhi preached and practiced non-violence and became the leading figure in India’s struggle to gain independence from Great Britain,” said Mrs. Singh.
“At MGM High School, this day is celebrated with much vigor, joy, passion and pride.
“We reflect and remind ourselves of the contribution of a great soul who is known as the Father of India,” she added.
Ratu Sukuna Memorial High School students were also invited to partake in the celebrations which featured cultural performances, poetry recitals in English, Hindi and iTaukei languages and the presentation of awards in light of the competitions organised as part of the Gandhi Day celebrations.
