Residents of Koroipita at Naikabula in Lautoka will have electricity in their homes before Christmas.

This was the assurance given to them by the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He said Government had already allocated funding for electrical works to begin and this would be completed in six weeks.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum visited a model of the township and admired the expansion made since Government had assisted it a few years ago.

He was also impressed with news that children from Koroipita had progressed well with many them holding top jobs while others were in universities.

Houses are almost completed with wiring for electricity to be carried out and there is the assurance from the A-G that their houses will be lit up by Christmas.

The brainchild behind the project, Peter Drysdale, said another 145 houses would be built to bring the total number to 378.

“If we achieve that then it will bring immense housing relief for about 1780 people,” Mr Drysdale said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum thanked the trustees and Peter (Drysdale) for the wonderful work they were doing, the initiative and the housing they have completed.

“We were here with the Prime Minister a few years ago and since then the township has grown,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said

“We hope to collaborate with the Koroipita project. We had supported them previously and we hope to continue to do that.

“A number proposals have been put to us as to how we can further collaborate with Koroipita to improve by getting more houses into his project.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said one of the things he liked about the Koroipita project was that residents adhered to its rules.

“Koroipita has given its residents a lot of opportunities to progress in their personal life and for the development of their family,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
