Makoi Maternity Ventures Into 24/7 Service

As part of the Ministry of Health’s innovate strategies to modernise and enhance the country’s health services, the Makoi Maternity Unit is now operating 24 hours and seven days a week.
The Unit, which opened in February and has been designed to conduct low risk maternity deliveries, has this month done its first four deliveries. It is gearing up to do 30 deliveries next month.
Minister Rosy Akbar recently visited the Unit and had talked about the progress of the new developments.
The Makoi Maternity Unit is a state of the art facility that has been built with an investment of $6.83 million by Government.
It is also equipped with latest medical equipment worth $300,000 to ensure the facility provides higher standards of maternal health care services to those in Makoi and the neighbouring communities.
Ms Akbar said the expansion of services at the Makoi Maternity Unit reflected on the Government’s ongoing committed to provide safe, accessible and efficient quality care for the mothers.
“The Unit is also expected to handle up to 100 deliveries per month as it gradually progresses towards achieving its full capacity. The low risk deliveries done at the Makoi Maternity Unit will ease the load at CWM Hospital maternity,” Minister Akbar said.
