A 20-year-old of Suvavou, Lami, has spoken of his dream to pursue further education after being part of a workshop on Education-Employment Linkage.

Weku Rokobuli was emotional as he described how he gave up his education when his family faced tough times.

The eldest of five children, Rokobuli was one of 20 graduates from the five-day workshop.

“I left school when I was half way through Year 13 and I regretted making that decision,” Mr Rokobuli said.

“Because of family problems I gave up easily.

“I want to become a teacher in the future because I want to repay my parents for everything they have done for me.

“I dream to work one day and don’t plan to be unemployed. Through the workshop I have learned a lot.

“The workshop taught me a lot about what to expect when employed. It helped me to understand the importance of hard work, the dignity of work and teamwork.

“It also taught me what I should do to improve my performance before I go to work.”

The programme, which started in 2016, was created for the youths of Immaculate Conception Parish in Lami.

It was implemented by parish priest Father Beniamino Kaloudau after he expressed concern that there were many unemployed youths in the greater Lami area.

After receiving their certificates, the participants will then go for four-week attachments.

The youths will be requested to give three choices of work places they would like to do their work attachment.

The education commission will write to these work places and the youths will be asked to do attachment in one.
