For the past seven years, the RFMF Wives and Mothers Club (WMC) has been donating packs to the patients in Lancaster Ward at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.

On Saturday morning, about 80 army wives and mothers took their packages of toiletries for newly admitted women admitted at Lancaster Ward.

“This is a way for us to also pay tribute to the army mothers and wives who have died in their battle against cancer,” said club secretary Vasiti Lilo.

Lancaster is the cancer ward.

According to Ms Lilo, the club did not have established statistics available to  ascertain the exact number of club members who had passed away from cancer.

“It’s not just breast cancer, but also cervical cancer and colorectal cancer that has affected our mothers and wives,” she said.

The admittance package includes fruits, water, undergarments, deodorant, shaving gear, Vicks, baby powder and stockings.

Ms Lilo told the Fiji Sun that their club visited the ward every month, to decorate it with flowers and make it look beautiful.

This project was spearheaded by Mary Bainimarama, the wife of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
