The Electoral Commission has decided that the 44 days within which the Fijian Elections Office is required to conduct election time processes will continue to run uninterrupted by public holidays.

After October 11, 2018, voters can check the details of where they will be voting by simply texting their VoterCard number to 1500. This is a free of charge service.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem also  reminded all contesting candidates that they had  eight days left, or seven from today, to send in their completed nomination forms.

“We will not accept any late nomination forms as candidates are given sufficient time to do so,” he said.

The FEO will not accept any candidate nomination form after 12pm as per the writ on October 15, 2018.

Mr Saneem also announced that the total number of voters eligible to vote in the 2018 General Election is 637,527.

“The total number of females is 316,431 and the total number of males is 321,096,” he said.

“Central Division has 265,184 voters, Western is second highest with

244,245, North has 94,094 Eastern has 26,034 and a total of 7970 are the Overseas registered voters.”

Mr Saneem said the FEO had already printed the Provisional Voter List by Polling Station for individual Pre-Poll Stations and had dispatched them to the divisional  managers for displays.

“The FEO intends to display the Election Day Voter Lists through its 1500 platforms, meaning voters who are registered to vote on Election Day are now able to SMS their VoterCard number to 1500 and find out their polling venue and station details.

“The total number of voters assigned for Pre-Poll is 70,519 and the total number of voters eligible for voting on Election Day currently stands at 559,038.”

Mr Saneem said the Final numbers for Election Day will be available on October 27th, 2018, after they have finalised the postal voting applications.

Based on the above figures, the FEO will be printing 764,900 ballot papers bound into 15,298 books.

Also the total number of Election Day venues is 854 and there will be 582 Pre-poll venues.

“On Election Day we will operate 1568 polling stations that will be managed by 10,000 staff.”
