Sugar Cane Growers Fund, TLTB In Joint Meeting With Farmers

The Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) and iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) held a joint sugar consultations in Seaqaqa yesterday.

Fund chief executive officer Raj Sharma thanked TLTB general manager Tevita Kuruvakadua and his team in Labasa for such joint initiatives for the sugarcane farmers.

The team visited three sugarcane belt areas in Seaqaqa, Macuata where farmers were consulted on lease renewals.

Farmers were informed by TLTB staff that they had the option to get leases renewed either for 30 or 50 years on the expiry of leases in the next five to seven years. They even have an option to surrender the lease now.

The farmers also had the opportunity to seek clarification and learn about the process of lease renewal.

SCGF will come out to assist and fund those farmers who have good production and meet loan guidelines for lease renewals.

Mr Sharma advised that those farmers who have loans with the Fund or other financiers, could surrender the lease and opt for new leases.

He further advised an extension of leases, which meant flexible loan terms for farmers.

He thanked the Sugar Cane Growers Council team, his staff and the farmers who gathered at three centres.

He also thanked the school managements who allowed them to have their meetings.

Fund Management will be joined by Permanent Secretary for Sugar Industry Yogesh Karan to visit various cane belt areas in Labasa this week.
