Senivoqa Youth Club members are working against time and weather as their biggest woodcarving project will be on display for Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, will visit Fiji from October 23 to October 25.

When you drive along Colo-i-Suva you can’t help but notice the big entrance posts and what the youths have already come up with.

The intricate designs on post at the entrance of the park are hard to miss.

But the club members, best known for their woodcarving skills, have chosen to keep the work under wraps until the arrival of the Duke of Sussex.

Organiser Temo Jope said 26 boys had been working on the site since September.

“We are trying to showcase what we are doing for a living in Fiji. We are woodcarvers so we would like to showcase what we can do,” he said.

Mr Jope said the preparation was going good, but the weather was the main issue right now.

“We are looking forward to meet Prince Harry and show him our work,” Mr Jope said.

“Further inside there are bures being built by the boys.”

Prince Harry will visit the forest park on October 24. Colo-i-Suva is an indigenous forest site housing many flora and fauna native to Fiji, and species, including the Fiji Tree Frog.

It is also Fiji’s dedication to The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.

Before unveiling a plaque to mark its dedication and planting an endangered native tree, His Royal Highness will meet school children, student conservators, representatives from sustainable tourism industries and local landowners and villagers to see how the rainforest impacts upon their education and livelihoods.
