Netball Need Right People

Former Silver Ferns Irene van Dyk believes for Fiji Netball to develop and perform, it will need the right people who are willing to put their hands up to come and serve.
van Dyk said in Suva yesterday Fiji had talented players, but they needed to be put in the right environment, right culture to help grow the sport.
“I do not know much about the high performance part of Fiji Netball because I am currently focusing on the grassroots development,” van Dyk said.
“Seeing the natural talent that the Fijians have I don’t think they will take long for them to climb the ranks. But, I think if the team culture and the environment is right, the players will want to be involved.
“For Fiji Netball to develop you will need the right people. Suva Netball Association is driving netball because they have the right people. And that is what other districts need – passionate people to drive the sport.
“If no one is willing to put their hands up, you can’t do anything about it so you’d hope that the right people would take it on board.”
Fijian Pearls preparation
Assistant coach for the Fijian Pearls Unaisi Rokoura said the national squad were currently awaiting head coach Vicki Wilson before any preparation can start for the 2019 Netball World Cup.
Rokoura added players were being urged to do their own preparation as they await their first training camp in December.
“For the Fijian Pearls everyone is looking forward to the preparation next year,” Rokoura said.
“So all we are waiting for is Vicky and the training will go ahead.
“She should be here soon. The responsibility will need to go back to the netters as they will need to be getting themselves ready if they want to be selected.”
The Fijian Pearls are currently ranked 12th in the world.”
