Top Surfers For Classic

Fiji’s best surfers will be competing for the PBS Lighthouse Classic on Saturday and Sunday at the Suva Reef.

This is part for the Fiji Surfing build up to the World Surfing Trophy next year.

Participants will compete in the Under14, U21, Longboard, Open Women, Masters, Open and an All Craft division.

Fiji Surfing head coach Ian Portingale said the tournament will give a chance to upcoming surfers to showcase their talent and also try and achieve maximum points.

Portingale added Fiji representatives are likely to bring a lot of competition.

“In the U14’s Suva’s Darcy Dwyer is on his home turf and should be a standout,” he said.

“He’ll be challenged by Fiji rep James Kusitino and Keisha Wakeham and young sensation Kusitino.

“The U21 will have three Fiji reps in Api Tibinaliva, Kalani Wakeham and John Vasea lining up against Suva local Curtis Light and Coral Coast’s Jimmy Tuitavuki.

“The weekend will be a fantastic demonstration of Fiji’s surfing talent as they all keep improving towards the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.”

Portingale said it will be an exciting match up in the Open women with Malia Johnson and Anais Rouveyrol go head to head with Kayla and Wakeham and Polly Chongsue.

He added top female surfer Hannah Bennett will take on the men as she strives to be the first female winner in this division.
