Nadi Aviators took out the Vodafone FNRL Nines women’s title with a 10-6 win over Lautoka Crusaders in the final at Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

The Crusaders only had themselves to be blame for continuously losing possession and failing to stick to their winning ways.

Aviators two tries came from winger Salote Vakaturaga with a conversion from Tokasa Seniyasi.

The side also had the likes of captain Makelesi Lalabalavu, Mere Lewatu and Seniyasi who dictated most of their moves.

Lautoka replied with a try to Taina Bainivalu and converted by Adimaira Vasiti as they levelled the scores 6-6 at halftime.

Crusaders were in good hands with skipper Karalaini Naisewa and Fijiana squad member Merewai Cumu leading the way.

“The girls did play to the game plan,” Lalabalavu said.

“We did keep our head cool when it was required. We did capitalised on the opposition’s mistakes which turned the game into our favour.”

On the other hand, Naisewa said two crucial handling errors led to their downfall.

Aviators won $500 while the Crusaders grabbed $250.

Meanwhile, the men’s competition was going on when this edition went to press last night.
