PM: FijiFirst Brings Stability, Progress

Fijians know that FijiFirst brings them certainty, stability and progress, says FijiFirst party leader and Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.
He made the comment while addressing people in Rakiraki during the FijiFirst family fun day and said Fijians knew what to expect from FijiFirst.
It was the Opposition, he said, that Fijians needed to be wary of.
“You know what we have done in the past four years since FijiFirst was in Government and, of course, my Government which was there before FijiFirst,” he said.
“You know what we have done. We have brought about all this development to the land. Electricity, new bridges, roads, water, social welfare privileges that you never had before in your lives – you have now got it.
“Free bus fare, free school fees for the kids, you know what we have done and we will continue doing that in the next four years. We are going to do more of that in the next four years.
“When we bring stability to the land, the economy grows and when the economy grows, we pass the benefits to people, especially you people in the rural areas.”

Policies FijiFirst introduced:
Mr Bainimarama went on to list some of the policies the Bainimarama Government and the FijiFirst Government introduced under his leadership:
- Free bus fares for school students and now for social welfare recipients;
- $1000 to mothers whose joint household income is less than $30,000 to assist in the child’s upbringing;
- Subsidised water and electricity for lower income earning households;
- Millions of dollars in grant for iTaukei landowners to encourage them to develop their land;
- Food vouchers for rural pregnant women to encourage them to eat healthy and give birth to healthy children;
- Increased maternity leave for women;
- Introduced for the first time in Fiji paternity leave for fathers to bond with their newborns and also to assist their partners who had given birth; and
- $100 for social welfare recipients.
He said FijiFirst has been clear in its policies of bringing equality to Fiji.
What has Opposition done?
Mr Bainimarama questioned what the Opposition had to offer.
He said SODELPA was still deciding on the party leadership while the National Federation Party was busy ignoring attacks on the Indo-Fijian community in Parliament and was running scared.
