A decision by Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem to disqualify National Federation Party provisional candidate Feroz Mohammed from contesting the election would have brought much relief to the troubled party.

He had become a liability and the NFP leadership was condoning his actions without any repercussions.

In light of the revelation by Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on emails Mr Mohammed had sent to a number of people mocking the A-G for going to a Hindu temple, NFP would be happy to see the last of Mr Mohammed.

There had already been talk within the hierarchy about Mr Mohammed becoming a worry.  That is why instead of considering an appeal against Mr Saneem’s decision, NFP leader Biman Prasad has charged ahead and announced that a different candidate will be nominated.

All the while Mr Mohammed has been harping on social media about plans to appeal his disqualification.

NFP has until midday today to either fight for Mr Mohammed or to drop him from its candidate’s list. It is highly unlikely the NFP and Mr Prasad will back a person they were uncomfortable with to begin with.
