‘We need to educate people on cancer, it is something that has to be consistent because people are very shy and embarrassed to go to doctors to get themselves checked out’

A total of $1140 was raised at the APCO Coatings Colour Explosion 2018 for women around the country who are battling cancer.

The day started off with the annual Pinktober Tea at the Botanical Garden in Lautoka on Saturday.

President for the Colour Explosion Paula Benn said funds raised from the event would be donated to the Western Cancer Society.

“Every year we do a Pinktober morning tea in aid of the Western Cancer Society and whatever we fundraise from here goes directly to them. This is our third year,” she said.

“First year was at Northern Club, last year was here at the Botanical Garden and this year it’s here again and we would like to thank the Lautoka City Council because they have always been supportive of us.

“We always have a programme and we need to empower people. We need to educate people on cancer, it is something that has to be consistent because people are very shy and embarrassed to go to doctors to get themselves checked out.

“We hope this will encourage them to not feel shy and to go out there and it is good to see men come out and support us and I think that something needs to be done for Movember as well.”

She said support was much needed from the family towards women battling cancer.

“We need everyone to support that family unit and support the women if they are not feeling well, encourage them or take them to the doctor because she thinks she’s superwoman, even if it is a small lump, it could be cancerous,” she said.
