The National Federation Party says the Attorney-General is welcome to take appropriate action on his allegations after an exchange of private emails to a number of individuals by Feroz Mohammed.

Mr Mohammed is a provisional NFP candidate who has since been dropped from the party’s list.

NFP leader Biman Prasad made the comment in a statement yesterday.

Party leader Biman Prasad made the statement after Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, upset by NFP’s former provisional candidate Feroz Mohammed’s continuing comments online on religion and against him, sent an email to Mr Prasad.

Mr Mohammed yesterday was disqualified by the Fijian Elections Office on the grounds that he was out of the country for 228 days out of 24 months and as a result did not meet the requirements set out by the Electoral Act.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum in the email said: “What are you going to do about his bigotry, which I brought to your attention previously, as a matter courtesy, after one of our Parliamentary sittings?

“It is apparent you didn’t do anything the first time and your provisional candidate has continued down this bigoted path with impunity. Obviously because of the lack of principled leadership and guardianship.”

Response

While responding, Mr Prasad said: “The NFP advises the Attorney-General that he is welcome to take appropriate action on his allegations following an exchange of private emails to a number of individuals by Feroz Mohammed.

“I have questioned Mr Mohammed and he totally denies that he wrote what the A-G is alleging.

“I am not privy to private email exchanges, something that the A-G should know. He may be privy to email exchanges on similar issues that I am not aware of. Only the A-G can clarify this.

“In any case I do not wish to engage in commenting on personal email exchanges on differing views expressed by individuals. All our candidates are engaged in campaigning on issues and that is what we will do until the elections.”
