Vodafone Vanua XVs Squad Announced

The Fiji Rugby Union yesterday released the names of a strong 31- member Vodafone Vanua XVs squad for a historic New Zealand tour next month.

Speaking to SUNsports, Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said the team would play a few warm-up matches to prepare for the tour.

The tour is a part of the outcome of discussions between the New Zealand Rugby Union and FRU as they look to strengthen their collaboration with the NZRU in rugby terms.

“We are grateful and thankful to the NZ Rugby Union for accommodating this tour and for organising the matches against the Heartland XVs in New Zealand,” O’Connor said during an earlier interview

He indicated that FRU is committed to creating pathways for all our players and this is an opportunity for players playing in the FRU Vodafone Vanua Championship to compete for places in the Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors, Fiji Airways Drua, the Fiji Airways men’s sevens teams and ultimately the Flying Fijians.

The team march into camp today after a series of friendly matches.

O’Connor who was present at the trials last Friday was pleased with the performance of the players.

“We have selected a very strong team and the players selected march into camp at PTC tomorrow for the final stages of preparation before they fly off to New Zealand on October 30.”

The selected players are also required to bring with them their travel documents (passports). They are also requested to contact the Vodafone Vanua XV manager, Maika Waqavatu on 9283511
