Vote2018: 3 Out, 234 In

Three  more candidates have been disqualified while 234 have been confirmed to contest the November 14 general election. This was announced by the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem last night.

Three  more candidates have been disqualified while 234 have been confirmed to contest the November 14 general election.

This was announced by the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem last night.

The three who were disqualified are from the Unity Fiji party. They are Sakeasi Lomalagi, Laitia Matalomani and Rajendra Singh.

But Unity Fiji Leader Savenaca Narube said they would appeal against the disqualification today.

Anyone who wishes to object to any candidate of any political party or appeal against the candidate’s nomination can do so from 8am to 4pm today.

Each objection needs to be accompanied with a $100 fee, but the appeal is free of charge.

This is the breakdown of candidate nominations by the six parties qualified to contest the election;

FijiFirst

Nominated 51 candidates on October 8. One candidate was not approved. FijiFirst replaced the disqualified candidate yesterday and the replacement has been approved.

Social Democratic Liberal Party

SODELPA submitted 51 candidate nominations on October 11 and one candidate was not approved. A replacement candidate was filed yesterday and the replacement candidate has been approved.

National Federation Party

Nominated 51 candidates on October 11. One candidate was not approved. NFP lodged the nomination for a replacement candidate yesterday, which has been approved.

Fiji Labour Party

Nominated 25 candidates on October 12, out of which three candidates were not approved. Yesterday FLP filed nominations for three replacement candidates, namely Eku Ratumainaceva, Vilikesa Taulele and Marika Taufa who have all been approved.

Unity Fiji

Filed 31 candidate nominations yesterday morning and the FEO verification process has approved 28 candidates, three candidates were rejected. One candidate has been adjudged bankrupt and two other candidates did not qualify under the criminal conviction requirements.

HOPE

Filed 28 nominations yesterday, which were all approved.
