This year the 2018 Fiji Business Excellence Awards (FBEA) will be celebrating 20 years of business excellence in Fiji.

The annual awards organised by the Fiji National University’s is a set of prestigious national awards designed to improve productivity and quality in organisations in Fiji.

The awards will be held at the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Saturday, November 3.

Director of the National Training & Productivity Centre, Isimeli Tagicakiverata said: “We at NTPC are proud of the fact that the Fiji Business Excellence Award is the only awards programme in Fiji that does not have a sponsor – and we have maintained this high status of complete independence for 20 years.

“Other awards programmes would have an array of corporate sponsors, which is something we work hard to avoid.

“The other consolation is that FBEA logo is internationally recognised so all organisations who get awarded at any of the levels, ought to use the FBEA to publicise their commitment to business excellence.”

Mr Tagicakiverata highlighted that the organisations in the private sector remains the biggest participants in FBEA.

“It ranges from manufacturing organisations to hospitality and transport organisations.

“The number of entrants received so far for the FBE awards since 1999 is 255. Note that many organisations have entered many times over the years.

“This year’s event we will celebrate the 20 years of Business Excellence in Fiji.

“There will also be special recognition to 15 people who had contributed a lot to the success of the FBEA.

“Some current evaluators will receive their Recognition jackets (for their five years of participation) and recognition plaque (for those who are involved in the process for the past 10 years)

“Many of our attendees last year were awestruck and mesmerised by the setup and decorations of the Sheraton venue, so we realised that we had reached a very high standard benchmark.

“This however has put pressure on our 2018 organising team to try to meet or surpass that benchmark. The main lesson for us is ‘to strive higher’.”

Important lessons drawn from FBEA he said were more opportunities for improvement for any type of organisation that aligns itself to the FBEA framework.

Also that organisations can achieve more than what they are getting now.

The FBEA was introduced in Fiji to promote business excellence by providing a framework or criteria for assessment that is based on similar principles as other Business Excellence (BE) or Quality Awards throughout the world.
