Defending champions Labasa Under-14 football side is on track to retain their title at the 43rd Vodafone Fiji Primary Schools Football Inter-District Championship at Churchill Park, Lautoka today.

This was after the Penisoni Tirau-captained side drew 0-0 with Ba in their opening match before they hammered Navua 5-1 in a one-sided affair.

In an interesting match, Tailevu came from behind to equalise 1-1 with host Lautoka, with the goal from Anasa Rasila in the 19th min­ute.

Striker Laisiasa Loloma netted the first goal of the tournament in the 6th minute for the Baby Blues infront of the home crowd.

Meanwhile, a new winner will be crowned in the U12 after defending champion Rewa failed to qualify.

The Labasa side is also the favour­ite after edging Navua 1-0 and later beat Nadroga 2-0.

Tournament coordinator Kamlesh Deo is impressed with the talents showcased on the first day.

“The competition level has defi­nitely gone up another level boost­ed with the good playing surface at Churchill Park,”Deo said.
