AI Cannot Replace Humans: Batiweti

We cannot replace human beings with artificial intelligence.

This is what Fiji Human Resources Institute president Kameli Batiweti told the Fiji Sun when speaking about digitisation.

“People say Fiji has an issue with time they call ‘Fiji time’,” he said.

He cited an earlier presentation in regards to the Hilton Hotel and their recruitment process which took six weeks.

“Upon digitisation, it took them less than a week, so those are the efficiency gains that we would get from moving to artificial intelligence. It may result in one or two positions not being filled, but at the very lower end because at the end of the day we cannot replace human beings with artificial intelligence.”

He also spoke about the importance of human intervention.

“Human intervention now has to come up now with better quality of service, better training, more experience so that when they have that human intervention, it’s of a better quality now than what it was previously.

“Currently, because there is so much work, human resources are doing that they get bogged down and they just do things quickly just to get a tick in the box. There’s no efficiency gains, no effectiveness in the process and so with the artificial intelligence coming in, there will be more efficiency and effectiveness in the processes.

“Then there will be quality in work.”
