The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber is happy with the performance of the new players in the squad.

This was after they took part in the Nabukelevu-i-ra 7s in Kadavu last week and the Turnbull Namamanuca 7s in Yanuya, Malolo yesterday.

The new players are Napolioni Ratu, Under-20 rep Vereniko Tiko, Beniamino Vota and Suli Vulivuli.

The players teamed with senior reps Kalione Nasoko, Waisea Nacuqu, Vatemo Ravouvou, Teri Tamani, Apenisa Cakaubalavu, Kitione Taliga and Sevuloni Mocenacagi.

They played for the DM 7s team and won the two-day Turnbull Namamanuca 7s tournament beating Wadigi 10-5 in the final at Namamanuca Primary School, Yanuya yesterday.

The side received $5000 and Baber rated the performance of Wadigi Salvo 7s team playmaker Napolioni Ratu. He played well against his former teammates in the final.

“It’s good to see him playing against some of the national reps,” Baber said.

“He did well again, it was good progression for him and he’s just 22 years old.

“Hopefully I can put more pressure on him in more local tournaments.

“The four new players will need to keep working hard and will get the opportunities.”

The squad will continue with their Daily Training Exercise (DTE’s) before marching into camp week before the Oceania 7s Championship at the ANZ Stadium on November 9-10.
