British High Commissioner to Fiji Melanie Hopkins said they expect more than 20,000 people at the traditional ceremonies of welcome for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tomorrow.

She said the royal visit would be a wonderful opportunity for all Fijians.

After the ceremony there would be a balcony experience at the Grand Pacific Hotel. She said the royals would be keen to see as many people as possible there.

The Duke will be meeting some school students and the Duchess will also be meeting with women of different backgrounds over tea at the high commissioner’s residence.

Meanwhile, vendors at the Suva Municipal Market are excited about meeting the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, this Wednesday.

That’s when the duchess visits the Suva market to meet women vendors after a morning tea with representatives of local women’s organisations at the British High Commissioner’s residence.

Soni Lata is one such vendor.

She said the cleaning of the market started last week and it looks very nice now.

“We will be in our Bula wear that day to be presentable because it’s very thoughtful of them to come and pay us a visit,” Ms Lata said.

“Small renovations have also started to take place inside the market for the market to make it look presentable for the royals,” she said.

Another market vendor, Kristina Lal, said she was looking forward to the visit.

“It is a lifetime opportunity,” she said.

“We are very privileged to get an opportunity to see the royals. We get a chance to see former Hollywood star Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, which is big thing for us.”
