The Fijian junior surfing team flew out of the country last night to participate in the World Junior Surfing title at Huntington Beach, California, USA. The event is from October 28 to November 3. The opening ceremony displaying all participating nations’ flags and uniforms is on Saturday.

Fiji Surfing head coach Ian Portingale said he’s confident that the five surfers would deliver the goods during competition.

“With 44 countries from all over the world our team of five will need to be at their best in this strong international field of 354 surfers,” he said

“Our under-18 boy is Korotogo’s Kalani Wakeham, under-16 boys are Api Tibinaliva of Coral Coast and Maui Bay’s John Vasea.

“The girls will be represented under- 16 surfers and Korotogo sisters Kayla and Kiesha Wakeham.”

Portingale said the team would be assisted by Lesi Navuwwai and Hannah Bennett.

“Both have plenty of international experience and they know what the team need to bring on in this strong international field.”

Portingale said the trip was made possible through the support of the Fiji National Sports Commission, national airline Fiji Airways and Cloud break.
