Man On Attempted Murder Charge Remanded In Custody

A 33-year-old man, charged with attempted murder, has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.

Anil Chand appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

He is charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

It is alleged that on July 25, 2018, Chand, who was in a relationship with the complainant, went to her flat in Vatuwaqa, Suva and confronted her as to why she wanted to leave him.

Chand had allegedly taken a knife along with him and stabbed the complainant several times on her back and abdomen.

It is alleged the complainant’s sister ran into the room after hearing her scream, where she was also allegedly stabbed by the accused.

The state lawyer was granted 21 days to file information and disclosures. The accused was further remanded in custody.

The matter was adjourned to November 13, before Justice Daniel Goundar. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
