A 23-year-old farmer of Malamala in Nadi was further remanded by the Nadi Magistrates Court yes­terday for alleged cultivation of drugs.

Sairusi Vakalalabure appeared before Magistrate Siromi Turaga charged with one count of unlawful cultivation of il­licit drugs and one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Police prosecutor Inspector Parmesh Chand represented the State.

The court heard on October 18 the ac­cused, without lawful authority, alleg­edly cultivated 6071 plants of Cannabis sativa or Indian hemp an illicit drug weighing at 93.8 kilograms.

On the same said day, the accused was allegedly found in possession of 3158.5 grams Cannabis Sativa or Indian hemp (an illicit drug).

The accused opted for a private lawyer and confirmed that he had received his disclosures.

Inspector Chand told the court that three other suspects were involved and are at large with Police trying their best to locate them.

Plea was deferred.

Magistrate Turaga remanded the ac­cused and adjourned the matter for men­tion on November 7 at the Nadi Magis­trates Court.
