The CMFI (Christian Methodist Fellowship International) Macuata 7s rugby kicks off tomorrow at Subrail Park, Labasa.

Tournament coordinator Esavata Takioro said they are expecting a good turnout.

“We are expecting a bigger turnout compared to last year,” Takioro said.

The tournament has been divided into three categories, tier 1, tier 2 and U19 category.

Takioro said tier one consisted of teams from Viti Levu while tier two comprised teams from the Northern Division.

“Before we only had one tier and this caused some teams from North to withdraw if a top team from Viti Levu entered the competition,” he said.

The Under-19 category consists of teams from throughout Fiji.

Top rugby teams from Viti Levu include Top Guns, First Landing Dratabu and New Born Waibasaga.

The defending champion MacDonald’s Saunaka will arrive in Labasa today.

Meanwhile, team manager of Breakthrough team from Labasa, Apenisa Tucati said they have been camping for the last two weeks. “Our training is intense and we are hoping to improve on our standings as well,” he said.

There are 20 teams in tier one, 20 in tier two and 9 teams in the U19 category.

The finals will be held on Saturday.
