Slayers club, an organisation dedicated to helping the needy, has heeded the call for assistance from a couple living on Galoa Island, in the Macuata province.

The group members travelled to the island on Sunday to deliver relief to Veresa Menuki and his wife Kinisimere Civoinono.

Mr Menuki is suffering some health complications and Ms Civoinono is bedridden.

Avishal Sharma, co-founding member of the group said that the family of two did not have much rations left.

“When we reached their home, the family did not have much to eat,” Mr Sharma said.

“We could see the tears in their eyes. You could tell they were really happy with our visitation.”

The team travelled in the early hours of Sunday to reach the island. Mr Sharma said it was worth it because the group’s prime aim was in helping the needy people of the society.

He said that the group found out about the family through friends.

Mr Sharma said that their group had also engaged in other projects recently.

The Slayers club is a newly-formed organisation which began in February this year. It has 18 active members.

Manoa Tutalai, 24, said: “I have always wanted to help the poor and uplift them in every possible way. We are all the human beings after all.”

Mr Tutalai said that the best part about the job was that it brought smiles to people’s faces.

Mr Tutalai urged youths to try their best in helping someone each day.

“People are in need and my youth brothers and sisters can be an element of change in their lives.”
