Couple in remand, awaiting bail response

A couple allegedly found in possession of more than 416.6 grams of methamphetamine have been further remanded in custody to await a response to their application for bail.
Lambert Kuruvoli and Alena Rogo appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday jointly charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs, while Rogo faces an additional count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
The couple appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara.
It is alleged the two imported the illicit drug on September 10 and October 13 this year.
The initial discovery was made by a Customs officer at the Nadi International Airport when the officer noticed a suspicious package which arrived from the United States containing items for a baby.
Upon further analysis, two bottles were found containing plastics with white powder which later tested positive as methamphetamine.
Police prosecutor Corporal Raymond Filipe informed the court that the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The accused couple had filed a bail application. The matter was adjourned for hearing to November 5.
