Bodybuilder Inoke Ligairi aims to develop young talents and encourage them to join the sport and represent Fiji to international events.

Ligairi was the first Fijian athlete that scooped the first medal in the Male Under- 85kg event of the South Pacific bodybuilding Championships at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva last Saturday.

Speaking to SUNsports after the championship, the 39-year-old indicated what had kept him strong throughout the competition.

“One of the main things that kept me going on is the urge to always do my best and try  to impress the judges,” he said.

“The main thing when on stage is to be focused with what the judges direct you to do.

“I did my best in the finals but unfortunately I wasn’t able to win but I’m happy that Fiji won the South Pacific title.

“Winning from 2016 and 2018 shows that Fiji bodybuilding is now developing.”

The Raviravi, Macuata native encouraged young athletes to join the sport in order to be healthy and muscular.

“This is a very minor sport and the athletes are getting better and better every year.

“The main aim now is to develop the young talents that are coming up and try to get them adopt the bodybuilding lifestyle because that is what that actually matters.

“Bodybuilding is not just a sport it’s a lifestyle.

“The sport helps an individual to understand the importance of nutrition, training and discipline.

“This sport also contributes to a healthy lifestyle of athletes and most of all in reducing the causes of NCDs.”

Meanwhile, Jekesoni Yanuyanudrua was crowned Mr South Pacific. The 27-year-old hails from Matokana in Ono-i-Lau.
