Suva based maritime and shipping companies converged at Muaiwalu House in Walu Bay, Suva last Thursday to join Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) and its subsidiary Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited (FSHIL) in their Pinktober charity drive.

The companies included Carpenters Shipping, Industrial Marine Engineering Limited, Shipping Service Fiji Limited, Swire Shipping Limited and Fiji Ports Terminal Limited.

$4000 was collected and given to the Fiji Cancer Society.

FPCL chief executive officer Vajira Piyasena said as a corporate organisation, they have in the past supported non-profitable organisations with donations, sponsorships and or giveaways.

“We are proud to have joined forces with our subsidiary company, Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited, to continue our support towards this worthy cause,” Mr Piyasena said.

“Our inaugural event last year was a success and that would not have been possible without the support from our stakeholders in the maritime industry,” he said.

“I must say that this event is not only organised as part of Fiji Port’s social corporate responsibility, but our collective responsibility as the maritime industry to society.

“To the victims, survivors, health ministry and the Fiji Cancer Society, know that you are not alone in this fight.

“We, at Fiji Ports Corporation Limited, our subsidiary company Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited and our stakeholders from the Maritime Industry, are with you in this battle.

“We are looking forward to supporting this worthy cause in years to come.”
