Fiji Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation continues the fight against Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) as they host the Mr and Miss Fiji Championship at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva on November 17.

The Mr Fiji title is currently held by Jekesoni Yanuyanudrua, who is dubbed the Fijian Superman. Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Federation president Vilash Prasad said the competition would help them recruit young athletes.

“Mr and Miss Fiji championship is a regional competition that will empower our athletes to compete in different levels,” he said.

“This will allow competitors to compete and demonstrate their talents.

“We are also trying to empower young athletes to come on board as well.

“There are number of them that are very talented and with the guidance of the senior players will help these youngsters move on the right path.”

Prasad added that hosting a national championship would help the federation create a healthy lifestyle for their athletes.

“This is not all about competing rather it is also to focus on diet, time management and training,” he said

“The reason why we are hosting the domestic show is because we are trying to combat NCDs.

“A lot of people are dying because of these diseases associated with NCDs, so we are trying to create a culture with a healthier lifestyle.

“We are really working towards the next South Pacific Bodybuilding Championship that will be held at New Caledonia next year. We will be able to field some of our athletes. We are in the right direction. “Particularly what we need to do is to plan in advance for next year.”
